Get ready to Kolor your world and change a child’s life!! Registration will be open March 24th for the 3rd Annual Kolor for Kids FunFest, sponsored by Element Mobile benefiting Children’s Miracle Network. This colorful event will feature a day full of fun for all ages.

Kolor for Kids FunFest will be held at the Grand Rapids Lions Club on Saturday August 23, 2014. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 10 am. Participants will start wearing white and end sprinkled in an array of fabulous colored cornstarch powder.

Come in your best “tropical” attire if you wish. Hawiian or just island dress would be appriciated. Or, if you don’t have anything like that, just check our dress code. Dance to oldies with some good modern tunes thrown in. There is a greeter who introduces new people to those already seated. Many enjoy dancing free style while others enjoy ballroom dancing they learned at dance lessons sponsored by CWN. There are three slow dance mixers, some simple line dances and fun dances like “The YMCA”.

The age of our group is 50 plus. If you are a little younger and enjoy dancing, please join us. Men wear casual dress pants or very good jeans, and nice shirts (no T-shirts please); women wear slacks, skirts, good jeans or dresses. Dances are held twice a month. Our DJ for the evening is Hit Man, Bill Dickerson. Admission is $8.00 for memabers and $12 for non-members.

The Tri-City Children’s Dream Foundation is proud to present Snowmobile Grass Drag Racing on Saturday, August 23rd at Octane Bar & Grill. We have 4 lanes of hot racing action. Come out and watch snowmobiles exceed speeds of 100 mph in just 500 feet. We have 33 classes so anyone can participate. We also have 2 Kiddy Kat classes. Gates opens at 10:00 am and racing action starts at noon. Come early to get the best seats. Admission is only $5.00 for adults and children 12 and under get in FREE. We will have Rocky Rococo’s Pizza and much more for your eating enjoyment. Proceeds to benefit the Tri-City Children’s Dream Foundation!

You’re invited to Meeting #5 of the Tribune Building Project’s Design Phase!
At Meeting #4 on July 29, residents worked together to analyze and rank exterior and rooftop design concepts for the future use of the Daily Tribune building. Participants also generated storytelling ideas for the incorporation of art within the building.

 

Please join us as work continues at the August 26 meeting. This meeting will focus on overall sustainability (environmental and otherwise) and community health. Participants will discuss the wider context of the building and its possibilities in the physical, economic and cultural landscape of the south Wood County area.

 

Bring your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors! Everyone’s input is important to create a space that celebrates the vision and voice of our community.

Labor Day Celebration

Come to Historic Point Basse for Pioneer Cooking 101, a “Service Learning Program” on Tuesday’s in September. Classes will be held on September 9th, 16th and 23rd with a graduation pot-luck September 30th. This series of classes will concentrate on cooking methods used before 1860.

 

1. Basic fire building and primitive methods

2. Campfire and open hearth cooking using cast iron

3. Cooking and baking on an 1850’s kitchen range.

 

Each of the 3 hour sessions begin at 5 pm and will concentrate on methods and foods used by our ancestors. These classes will be conducted by the volunteer staff of Historic Point Basse with assistance from others who have expertise in a specific area.

 

This is a great opportunity to learn new skills for campers and scouts . It is also an opportunity to meet volunteers from Point Basse, learn about volunteer opportunities at Historic Point Basse and join a group that offers great historical learning opportunities and camaraderie and fun.

The first ever Walk MS: Stevens Point will be held on Sunday, September 14 at the UW-Stevens Point campus. More than 250 walkers are expected to come out and help raise the goal of $15,000. Funds raised will support direct services for the more than 11,000 children, women and men in Wisconsin diagnosed with MS and their families, as well as MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system. People can participate in Walk MS individually or as a team.Volunteers are also needed.

Big Pull Pyramid Attempt

72 people – 6 four tier pyramids side by side all pulled behind a single boat. The boat will be a Dynaski triple rig powered by 3 – 300 hp Evinrude engines. Showskiers from several Midwest showski teams will come together for this world record attempt.
We will be pursuing both the National Show Ski Association national record and will be doing the pull in accordance with Guinness requirements for the World record.
