Singles dance to oldies with some good modern tunes thrown in. There is a greeter who introduces new people to those already seated. Many enjoy dancing free style while others enjoy ballroom dancing they learned at dance lessons sponsored by CWN. There are three slow dance mixers, some simple line dances and fun dances like “The YMCA”.

The age of our group is 50 plus. Men wear casual dress pants or very good jeans, and nice shirts (no t-shirts please); women wear slacks, skirts, good jeans or dresses. Dances are held twice a month.

Live music from the Lovin’Country Band. They play country, oldies and some modern music, very good dancing music. Wear country attire if you want. Admission is $10 members  and $15 non-members.

American Legion Baseball Bowl-a-thon

On April 26, 2014  the American Legion post 9 Baseball will be holding a Bowl-a-thon fundraiser at Bowlmor Lanes for the American Legion Rambler and Rangers. The fundraiser will run from 9 am to 9 pm and is open to the public.

During the fundraiser we will be holding raffles for over 100 baskets and paddles raffles for over 25 items. Packer & Brewer items are up for grabs as well as a large number of other raffle items. The funds we raise will go toward summer baseball program costs. American Legion provides quality summer baseball programs for youth in our area.
We currently have a openings for bowling during the 9 am, noon, 3 pm & 6 pm shifts. If you are interested in putting a team together for the event please contact Adrienne Kingery at 715-459-3394 or 715-421-3637.

20th Annual Wisconsin Rapids Children’s Festival

The 20th Annual Wisconsin Rapids Children’s Festival is celebrating Children Around the World! This free event offers a day of hands-on activities to children aged toddler to 10 years old. Tom Pease will perform from 10:30 – 11:30 am, Wayne the Wizard takes the stage from noon to 1:00 pm, Karate America will put on a demonstration from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. There will be a petting zoo and Smokey the Bear will visit the festival. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The 6K Walk/Run Course will take you around scenic Lake Wazeecha. The race begins near the Red Sands Beach Pavilion which is located in the south Wood County Park, Lake Wazeecha. The course is a combination of trail and road which is clearly marked. The event takes place rain, shine or snow!

The event consists of a Kids Fun Run (all kids medal), 6K Run/Walk, Raffle Baskets and Sensory Children’s Play area.

Medals will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 6K event. Plus, awards will be given to the top two male and female finishers in each of the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60 and 61 and above.

All proceeds from this event will support local needs and provide resources to the greater autism community of central Wisconsin.

We are having a benefit to fund scholarships to Mid-State Technical College in memory of Don Eberhardt. We had planned on holding a benefit last year to support the scholarship fund, but Don passed away of esophageal cancer last April. We have established a non-profit trust to support perpetual scholarships in his honor.

We will have live music by the Vanalleks, Jack Secret, The Phixx and The Lizardz, as well as DJ On the Go. We are having a raffle with tons of great prizes, including a 50″ LG TV! There will be a free craft table for kids. We will have kids games, a cake walk, a cash and carry Mother’s Day table, bake sale, food and refreshments, pizza by Rocky Rococo, 50/50 drawings and various other events throughout the day. The donated items are posted on our website or visit us on Facebook.

TerMaat Glavin Group presents: the Vic Ferrari Band performing at Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on Friday, May 16th as a part of the 34th Annual Royal Event!

A limited number of tickets are available in n advance for $10.00 and can be purchased online or at the ACS Scrip Office M-F 8:00 am-4:30 pm (use the Hill Street entrance of Assumption High School-445 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI). Concessions under the tent -including the famous Tom Voelker Shrimpo Boil open at 5:30 pm. Concessions also include burgers, brats, beer and wine coolers. The Vic Ferrari band will perform on the gymnasium stage from approximately 7-11 pm.

A LIMITED amount of sideline seating is available. The only public entrances for this event are at the east end of the gymnasium. Additional parking in the Riverview Hospital parking lot adjacent to the AHS football field.

The 2nd Annual Jon Soderberg’s ALS Benefit for the MDA, Augie’s Quest and the ALS-TDI will be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 at the Riverside Park in Pittsville, WI. The event is scheduled from noon to midnight. The event will be sponsored in partnership with the Pittsville Lions Club, ALS/TDI, Augie’s Quest and the MDA. Our goal is to raise public awareness about ALS, help individuals in Central Wisconsin affected by Muscle Diseases along with raising funds to support much needed ALS research.
Live music from Boogey and the YoYoZ who have a huge mid-west following. Also, tentatively scheduled on the day of the event: one of the first car shows of the year; an ALS walk around the Park; food, beverages and ice cream; a vendor/craft fair; bingo; raffles and drawings; bean bag tournament; games and activities for kids; silent auction; fireworks and more! Approximately 1,500 people participated in the 2013 event throughout the day, this year we are expecting to exceed that number!
In June of 2012, Jon was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Jon is employed at Handy Enterprises Incorporated as a mechanic and is unable to work at this time. He has been treated at the Marshfield Clinic; University of Wisconsin Hospitals, Madison WI; Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Jon, 28, and his wife, Kristin, live in Pittsville, WI with their 3 year old daughter Colby.

The Royal Golf Scramble is held annually at the Ridges Golf Course on the 3rd Friday in July. This event has been held annually for the past twenty-two years. Morning and afternoon sessions are available, and approximately 260 golfers participate each year. A dinner is prepared by AHS alumni, at Assumption High School in the evening, concludes the event. Hole sponsorships and prizes are solicited form local businesses by both Athletic Assn. members and the Athletic Director. Athletic Assn. members assist with the various activities and organization of prizes.

Every fourth Saturday in July, the Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club will be hosting its Annual Antique Tractor Show at Anderton Park in Sherry, WI.

 

Come on out on Saturday, July 26th to see all makes and models. The show will run from 10:00 am-11:00 pm with a tractor parade at 1:00 pm. There will be awards for the three best tractors that will be voted on by an at-large committee of show guests. There will be an antique tractor pull challenge weather permitting and barrel rides for the kids. Along with music, food and refreshments available.

 

Proceeds from the show go to sponsoring Tractor Safety courses in Auburndale and Marshfield High Schools along with community improvements. The show is located half way between Marshfield and Stevens Point about two miles south of State Highway 10. Admission is FREE and there is no charge for showing tractors or old equipment. Get ready to Kolor your world and change a child’s life!! Registration will be open March 24th for the 3rd Annual Kolor for Kids FunFest, sponsored by Element Mobile benefiting Children’s Miracle Network. This colorful event will feature a day full of fun for all ages.

Kolor for Kids FunFest will be held at the Grand Rapids Lions Club on Saturday August 23, 2014. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 10 am. Participants will start wearing white and end sprinkled in an array of fabulous colored cornstarch powder.
