Snowmobiling has a long and cherished history in Wisconsin Rapids Area. With some 271.68 miles of snowmobile trails to enjoy in Wood County, the trail system and its tributaries connect clubs, restaurants, and charming towns to allow riders a totally snowmobile-oriented touring and vacation experience. Ice fishing is a completely unique experience and once you try it you’ll be hooked for life! Let the local experts set you up in an ice house, get it well stocked, then kick back and enjoy a very Wisconsin tradition. A great way to get a second shot at the one that got away! Lakes Nepco, Dexter, and Wazeecha are excellent areas for ice fishing. Be extremely cautious of ice conditions at all times. Too cold to spend the day? Be sure to check the annual calendar of events for Historic Point Basse’s ice harvest or one of our local community’s ice fisheries!

Cross-country skiing is everywhere, with hundreds of miles of well-marked trails traversing private lands and state areas. Break away from the more crowded touring centers and let yourself experience the splendid isolation of the Wisconsin woods in winter. Passes can be purchased at the trailhead. Daily trail passes are $5, and ages seven and under are free. Annual trail passes are $15, or you can purchase a family annual pass for 3 or more people for $40.

Nepco Lake County Park

Located 1 mile south of Wisconsin Rapids, the 125-acre park is situated on the 494-acre Nepco Lake. The park currently has 4.4 miles of cross country ski trails that are groomed by the River Cities Nordic Ski Club throughout the season. Passes can be purchased at the trailhead.

Richfield Area Trail

Located seven miles north of Pittsville on County Trunk Highway A, and then one-half mile east on Heggelund Lane. This 360-acre parcel has 5 miles of developed cross country ski trails and 8 miles of cross country ski/nature trails routed across open fields, through forests, and along Puff Creek to provide additional scenic value. All trails are marked and groomed during the winter season.

The Tri-City Curling Club is one of only 80 dedicated facilities in the United States that offers training and competitive opportunities in the lifetime and Olympic sport of curling for area residents. Powers Bluff Park and Winter Recreation Area

Located just 17 miles northwest of Wisconsin Rapids, the 160 acre park is home to downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, tubing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. A two-story stone shelter building includes a warming house with concessions, ski, snowboard, boot, and pole rentals. Tow passes are available for purchase on site. Open seasonally, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-5 pm. Call ahead to verify holiday schedule. Powers Bluff is home to three downhill skiing and snowboarding trails varying from 1,320 to 1,500 feet in length. The estimated vertical drop is 250 feet. The downhill trails are operated by a handle grip tow, which is an ideal system for beginners and snowboarders. Handle grip tow tickets are available for purchase on site. Families will love tubing! Descend through the snow on a fast-paced tube while visiting Powers Bluff winter sports area. Four tube runs are available, with two handle grip tows that lessen your wait time during your winter adventure. Tubes are provided at no charge with the purchase of a tube hill ticket. No outside tubes are allowed.

Tri-Norse Ski Club and Winter Park is the place to learn how to ski jump or participate in some winter fun! They have a K5, K10, K22 and K52 jumps, as well as teachers and equipment for you to use. If you’re not a jumper no worries, you can still come out to catch the jumping action on snow or even plastic. They also offer cross country and snowshoe trails, and new this year an ice rink!
